Who should take IELTS Academic ?

This exam is for those planning to study for a higher education (university, college, etc.) or for those who wish to pursue work or training in a professional field such as medicine or engineering.

As the name implies, this version assesses a candidate’s readiness for academic studying or training in English.

Accepted as evidence of English proficiency by 10,000 institutions

An IELTS certificate is recognised as evidence of proficiency in English by more than 10,000 education and training providers worldwide. Some universities in non-English speaking countries require an IELTS score, where courses are taught in English.

IELTS Academic Test Format

The Academic version of IELTS is harder than the general version. All candidates do the same Listening and Speaking sections.

The test has four sections:

  1. Listening (4 sections, 40 questions, 30 minutes)

  2. Reading (3 long reading passages, 40 questions, 60 minutes)

  3. Writing (2 Writing Tasks, 60 minutes)

  4. Speaking (An interview, 15 minutes)

IELTS Academic Scoring (Bands)

IELTS results are designed to be simple and easy to understand. They are reported as band scores on a scale from 1 (the lowest) to 9 (the highest).

Getting Bands 7 or above is Not a Cakewalk ! Yes, that's true. Before you attempt for the actual IELTS Exam, we recommend you take a free mock test and see where you stand.
